4-H Youth Development

"To Make the Best Better!"

4-H is a nationwide program offering youth, ages 7-19 the opportunity to develop leadership, citizenship and life skills, while participating in hands-on learning.

The "Learn by Doing" philosophy encourages 4-H members to plan and organize monthly meetings, community service projects, and other club activities. 4-H members can choose from more than 30 projects, each providing the participant a chance to explore a new topic, while developing new skills. Many of the projects have knowledgeable adults willing to assist the youth; however, other projects will be done independently at home with assistance from parents. 4-H members will have several opportunities to talk about and present their projects through club meetings, project shows, or the county fair.

4-H Colors: The 4-H colors are green and white. Green is nature's most common color and represents youth, life and growth. White symbolizes purity and high ideals.

4-H Emblem: The green four-leaf clover has a white H on each leaf to represent the four H's: Head; Heart; Hands; and Health. The 4-H name and emblem are protected under federal status Title 18, U.S. Code 707.

4-H Pledge:
I pledge –
my head to clearer thinking,
my heart to greater loyalty,
my hands to larger service, and
my health to better living
for my club, my community, my country, and my world.
